New road safety measures

{ February 23rd, 2010 }

Following a meeting of the Fossoway Community Council on Wednesday 22nd March, the decisions on spending for road safety improvements have been made by the community. The main results for our school are the approval of spending for a new pedestrian crossing at the Institute, and approval (pending investigations and design) of a pedestrian crossing at Drum.

This is great news for kids walking to school from both ends of the villages, and also for parents who can use the Institute car park and walk to school.

The timescale will be set by PKC Roads, but the spending will be put through for financial year 2010-2011.

Walking Bus

{ May 26th, 2009 }

The Walking Bus started last week, and has got off to a steady start. The bus will run for four weeks, on the following dates:

  • 21,22 May
  • 28, 29 May
  • 4,5 June
  • 11,12 June

There are two groups of people who would use this, those from out with the village using cars to get to school, and those families within the village who can walk to school.

The Walking Bus starts at the Crook of Devon Institute car par and and leaves at 8:30am prompt. It will stop to pick up more children at 8:40 outside the Inn beside the pedestrian crossing, and will due the return journey at home time. For more information, download the Walking Bus information pack

We would love more kids to join us, and if you as a parent can help then please get in touch with the school. This is a pilot which, if successful and supported, may continue next session.

Attending: Sam Nicholson, Andrew Montford, Karen Hogarty, Ian Rose, Willie Campbell, Duncan Summervail, Katharine Gunn, Denise Wilson, Heather Hutchinson. Apologies: Trish Jackson

The first meeting of 2009 was very busy with a huge amount of ground covered.

The usual admin points were covered: website visits were still slow, but OK. Willie had failed to get elected to the Lifelong Learning Committee (hurrah!). PKC have been keeping themselves occupied over recent weeks and this time sent a Parent Council newsletter and a document on bullying.

This was our first proper meeting with the new head (Sam Nicholson, if you didn’t know already), and I think it’s fair to say the council have established a good rapport in quite a short space of time.

Those who managed to make it to the meeting were, Willie Campbell, Ian Rose, Andrew Montford, Michelle Telfer, Heather Hutchinson, Carole Kinghorn, Duncan Summervail and Sam Nicholson. Apologies from Heather Davidson, Anne Marie Machan, Denise Wilson and Katharine Gunn.
